Noghost

Apps can now build a talking avatar of a dead person from minutes of video. Noghost lets you sign a directive on who may make a replica of you, and gives apps a lookup to check first.

How it works

A consent registry that AI avatar apps check before bringing anyone back from the dead.

One grief app now builds a talking avatar of a dead loved one from about three minutes of footage, and privacy law mostly protects the living. Noghost stores a signed directive that says which replicas of your voice, face and words are allowed, and who decides. Avatar apps get a free lookup to check before they build anyone.

  1. Step 01

    You sign a Noghost Directive

A lawyer-reviewed template for your jurisdiction: allowed and forbidden uses of your voice, face and text, and a named replica executor.

  2. Step 02

    Apps check the registry first

A free lookup API tells an avatar or video app whether a person is registered and who can consent, with a signed receipt to show regulators.

  3. Step 03

We watch for avatars in the wild

Agents scan app stores and public avatar galleries for replicas of registrants, and send polite takedown requests.

What you get

Built for people planning their estate, and replica apps.

01

A signed Noghost Directive

Allowed and forbidden uses of your voice, face and text replicas, with a named replica executor, kept in the registry.

02

A lookup API for platforms

Grief-tech, avatar and video apps check a person before building a likeness, and keep a signed audit receipt.

03

An estate dashboard

Estates and law firms file, update and enforce directives, with a feed of avatars found in the wild.

First up: We start with a free checker, “Who can bring you back?”, then the signed directive for anyone who wants one.

Why now

The world just changed.

What changed, and where it was reported.

  1. 2wai’s iOS beta builds a talking video avatar of a dead loved one from about 3 minutes of footage. The founder’s promo got 22M views and was called ‘demonic’; experts flagged a consent gap.

  2. Legal commentary says writing ‘no AI resurrection’ into a will may not give the protection people assume. The law is thin.

  3. A University of New England explainer says an ‘AI afterlife’ is now a real option, with open questions on consent, copyright and data resale when the company closes.

  • Scanning app stores for avatars
  • Sending takedown requests

What a person does

A licensed lawyer in each launch jurisdiction reviews the directive templates every year. A person signs platform agreements and data-protection terms, a vendor verifies each registrant’s identity, and counsel handles any escalated takedown.

Does a directive legally stop a replica?

Not everywhere yet. The law is thin and differs by state and country. A directive is a clear, signed record of your wishes, and it works best when apps check it, which is what the lookup is for.

Is this legal advice?

No. We offer lawyer-reviewed templates and a registry, never advice on your own situation. For your estate plan, talk to your own lawyer.

What do you store about me?

As little as we can. Lookups use hashed identifiers, and identity checks go through a verification vendor.
